What is Japanese encephalitis?
Japanese encephalitis is a viral disease which can trigger inflammation of the brain and mucus membrane. Depending on the age of the patient, Japanese encephalitis can end in death for up to 3 out of 10 people.
Japanese encephalitis is transmitted via mosquito bites, which are especially present in India, China and south-east Asia.
Vaccination recommendations for travellers:
The Austrian vaccination plan only recommends the vaccination against Japanese encephalitis for people travelling to Asia.
